Pet Emergency C-Section

How Do I Know If My Dog Needs to Come for an Emergency C-Section?

We have 24/7 emergency C-section on call services. If it is outside of normal business hours, call the clinic number and you will be redirected to the emergency call line. Please read the below information to know if you are in need of a C-section as you will be asked the same questions and told the same information over the phone.

Our staff is on an on-call basis after hours, meaning we are not at the clinic 24/7 but must leave our homes to come for emergencies. While we are happy to provide these services, and understand emergencies happen at all times, please respect our staff’s home time and sleep. Strive only to call if you are in need of services.

For French Bulldog, Pug, or English Bulldog, (or any mix containing these breeds)

If your dog has started active labor (stage 2: You will see contractions and the dog actively trying to push puppies out), call the clinic and bring the dog in for a C-section right away. Do not wait for the dog to try on their own.

For All Other Breeds (Not French Bulldog, Pug, English Bulldog, or any mix containing these breeds)

If your dog is in active labor (stage 2: You will see contractions and the dog actively trying to push puppies out), and it has been going on for more than 4 hours without a pup being born, call the clinic and bring the dog in for C-section right away.

If there has been more than 2 hours since a puppy being born and your dog is still in active labor, call the clinic and bring the dog in for C-section right away.

If you see or feel a puppy stuck during birth, call the clinic and bring the dog in for C-section right away. We do not recommend trying to pull the puppy out, as this can be dangerous to the puppy and to the mom.

If your dog shows signs of finishing labor (more than 2 hours of resting with no pushing), but you know there are more puppies, call the clinic and bring the dog in for C-section right away.

In order to protect our staff, the following policies are in place

The first emergency call is free. If you elect to not come in for C-section, all future emergency
calls before the next business day will require credit card information prior to consultation with
the veterinarian, and you will be charged a consultation fee. All fees will be applied the next
business day. Any fees that can not be collected will result in an outstanding balance, and we will not give further services until fees are paid.

If you do not show up for a requested C-section, all emergency fees, staff fees, and no-show fees will be applied to your account. We will not provide future services until fees have been paid.

If you are a new client and have never been seen with us, we will require credit card information to be given before staff will come for a C-section. This is to ensure payment of staff in event of a no-show. All fees will be applied the next business day. Any fees that can not be collected will result in an outstanding balance, and we will not give further services until fees are paid.
